From backyard league to Lancaster sports movement
THE BAL STORY
BAL — the Backyard Athletics League — started in Lancaster, PA in 2021 with a simple idea: get your boys together, keep stats, and crown a champion. What began as a few friends lacing up on the local courts has grown into a full-blown sports organization spanning three leagues, 14+ teams, and hundreds of unforgettable moments.
THE SPORTS
Full-court 5v5 basketball. The original BAL sport and still the crown jewel of the league.
Flag football with full playbooks, rivalries, and playoff drama every season.

THE JOURNEY
A group of friends in Lancaster decided to stop talking about playing and actually do it. BAL was born with a handful of teams, a camera, and a dream.
Word spread fast. New teams joined, rivalries formed, and the first real championship runs began. The stat tracking started getting serious.
Football and Wiffleball officially joined the BAL family. Players could now compete across all three sports in the same season.
Highlights going viral on Instagram. Parents watching from the sidelines. Sponsors taking notice. BAL became something bigger than anyone expected.

All BAL games are played in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. From the basketball courts to the football fields, these are local venues that the community shows up for. Real games. Real crowd. Real energy.
Who Plays?
BAL is open to anyone in the Lancaster community who wants to compete. We've had first-time players become all-stars, and veterans who've been here since day one. The competition is serious — but the community is what keeps it going.
