📰 Devin Atkinson is the BAL’s true MVP while Woodpeckers waste his genius
July 23, 2026
Nobody wants to say it, but Devin Atkinson is the most important player in the BAL, and frankly, he’s more valuable than your favorite high-scoring ball hog. While the box score junkies drool over Ty Burton’s 30.6 PPG, they’re missing the point. Ty is just getting buckets; Devin is running a masterclass. With 15.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG, and 5.0 APG, Devin is the only player in the league doing everything at an elite level. Let’s be real: Ty Burton’s 4.4 APG pales in comparison to the floor generalship Devin provides.
The Woodpeckers are in serious trouble if they don't start realizing that Devin is their engine. Everyone talks about Luke Rumbaugh’s 21.8 PPG, but Luke is a pure shooter who disappears when the rhythm isn’t there. Meanwhile, Devin is top-five in assists (5.0 APG) and top-five in rebounds (9.2 RPG). How is he not the focal point every single night? It’s embarrassing to watch the offense stagnate while Luke chases shots, ignoring the guy who actually makes the Woodpeckers functional.
This is simple math: high scoring doesn't equal winning, control does. Justin Baker 2.0 averages 19.6 PPG and 4.8 APG, yet the Cherrypickers are a mess. Devin provides the same playmaking efficiency with higher rebounding totals. Someone on that roster needs to step up or step aside and hand the keys to Devin full-time. If the Woodpeckers want a repeat, they need to stop pretending that PPG is the only metric that matters. Put respect on Devin Atkinson’s name, or keep watching your title hopes fade while you feed the wrong guys.
