📰 Devin Atkinson is a fraudulent role player tanking the Woodpeckers season

August 25, 2026
Nobody wants to say it, but Devin Atkinson is the most overrated player in the BAL. The Woodpeckers are in serious trouble and everyone knows it, largely because their supposed "star" is allergic to the bucket. You look at his 16.6 PPG and compare it to Ty Burton’s explosive 35.5 PPG or even his own teammate Luke Rumbaugh’s 21.7 PPG, and it’s clear: Atkinson is a glorified role player masquerading as a focal point. Let’s be real, his stat line is nothing more than polite padding. Sure, 8.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists look decent on paper, but where is the dominance? When you’re supposed to be a leader for the Woodpeckers, you shouldn't be getting out-rebounded by the likes of Jared Kumah or even his teammate Elijah Eberly. While Eli Washington is running the league with 5.8 assists and elite defensive pressure, Atkinson is just aimlessly passing the rock to keep his numbers tidy. This is embarrassing for a player with his reputation. Someone on that roster needs to step up or step aside because Atkinson isn't the guy. If you’re a title contender, you can't have your primary option disappearing while guys like Ethan Benne are dropping 30-pieces in their sleep. Atkinson plays a soft, safe game that doesn’t move the needle against the league's elite. If he thinks he’s a superstar, he’s delusional; if the Woodpeckers think he’s their engine, they’re destined for a long, painful exit. The hype train has officially derailed.
