The Crown Remains, but the MVP Is Gone
Titans enter BWAL Season 4 as defending champions β without reigning MVP Willie Burger.
August 25, 2026
The Titans will enter the fourth BWAL season as defending championsβbut they will do it without the player who carried them to the top.
Reigning MVP Willie Burger will not return this season, leaving the Titans with the largest hole any team must fill. Burger's championship campaign was dominant: 26 hits, 25 RBIs, five home runs and 134 pitching strikeouts across nine games. He led the entire league in hits, RBIs and home runs while finishing second in pitching strikeouts.
That is not the kind of production a team simply replaces.
Burger was at the center of everything the Titans accomplished. After finishing 5β2 during the regular season, they defeated the Dragons 9β1 in the semifinals and shut out the 8 Balls 8β0 in the championship. Their postseason dominance made them look like a team ready to control the league for years.
Now, the champs suddenly look vulnerable.
The Titans still have a strong core. Johnny Besecker finished last season with 21 hits, the second-highest total in the league, while Grant Conway contributed 16 runs, nine RBIs and two home runs. Bubba Brezina and Liam Besecker also remain important pieces.
But replacing Burger will require more than one player taking a step forward. The Titans must replace their best hitter, their top run producer and one of the league's most dangerous pitchersβall at once.
For the first time since lifting the trophy, the Titans will have to prove they can win without their MVP.
The crown still belongs to them.
The question is how long they can hold onto it.
