BWAL TOP 15 — NO. 7: CAM BARTO

8 Balls | Season 3: 9 H, 6 R, 10 RBI, 2 HR, 13 BB, 11 K, 6 GP

Season 4 Countdown

The black beanie makes him look like a robber.

Considering how many games Cam Barto has stolen for the 8 Balls, it might be the perfect uniform.

At No. 7 on the BWAL Season 4 Top 15 is Barto—the reigning Captain of the Year, a Season 2 champion, the emotional leader of the 8 Balls and the closest thing the BWAL has to Bryce Harper.

The comparison goes beyond being left-handed and dangerous at the plate. Like Harper, Barto plays with emotion. He carries himself like the biggest moment belongs to him, embraces pressure and gives his team an identity every time he takes the field.

"Cam is our Bryce Harper," 8 Balls veteran Matt McCleary said. "He has the talent, the confidence and the passion. When the moment gets bigger, he wants to be the guy standing at the plate."

Barto appeared in only six games during Season 3, but his production remained elite. He finished with nine hits, 13 walks, two home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs while batting .429.

He reached base 22 times in 34 recorded opportunities, giving him a .647 on-base percentage.

His Season 3 rankings show how effective he was:

  • Second in on-base percentage: .647
  • Fifth in batting average: .429
  • Tied for fifth in home runs: 2
  • Seventh in RBIs: 10
  • 10th in walks: 13

That means Barto finished inside the league's top seven in batting average, on-base percentage, home runs and RBIs—all while receiving only 21 official at-bats.

"Cam doesn't need many opportunities to hurt you," Cherrypickers star KJ Myers said. "He'll take the walk if you don't challenge him, but if you make a mistake, he has the power to completely change the game."

Barto's season began quietly, but his defining stretch arrived when the 8 Balls needed him most.

Against the Dragons, he went 4-for-5 with a home run, two walks, four RBIs and two runs. In his next game against the Cherrypickers, he added two hits, another home run, two walks, three RBIs and two more runs.

Across those two games, Barto reached base 10 times, drove in seven runs and homered twice.

That was the complete Cam Barto experience: patience, power and production arriving together.

"I thought the black beanie made him look like he was about to rob a convenience store," Dragons legend Will Byler said. "Then he went out and robbed us of a win. It turns out the look fits him pretty well."

But Barto's value cannot be completely explained by his batting line.

Season 3 ended with him being named Captain of the Year, recognition of the leadership that helped carry the 8 Balls to their third consecutive championship appearance. He set the tone, defended his teammates and made sure the group maintained the confidence expected from the league's most consistently successful franchise.

"He is the voice and the heartbeat of this team," 8 Balls veteran Alex Cruz said. "Cam holds everybody accountable, but he also makes everybody believe we're going to win. That's what a captain is supposed to do."

Barto already knows what it takes to finish the job. He helped lead the 8 Balls to the Season 2 championship, giving him something many talented players in the league are still chasing: a ring.

Season 3 presented an opportunity to become a two-time champion. The 8 Balls reached the final again but fell to the Titans, leaving Barto and his teammates one victory short of defending their place at the top of the league.

Even in defeat, his impact was clear. Barto drew two walks in the championship game, forcing the Titans to remain careful with him until the final out.

"He's one of those players who brings an edge to the whole game," Titans captain Johnny Besecker said. "You know exactly where Cam is, you can hear him and you know his team believes in him. He already has a championship, and you can tell he's desperate to win another."

His career résumé strengthens the Bryce Harper comparison.

Barto is the BWAL's all-time leader in triples. He ranks second in career walks, third in home runs and RBIs, and fourth in both runs and catches. Add a Season 2 championship and a Captain of the Year award, and his résumé is already among the most complete in league history.

There is a case that No. 7 is too high. Barto recorded only nine hits and six runs during Season 3, and the 8 Balls could not complete another championship run despite returning to the final.

There is also a powerful case that No. 7 is too low.

He ranked second in on-base percentage, fifth in batting average, fifth in home runs and seventh in RBIs despite playing only six games. He is already a champion, an award-winning captain and one of the most accomplished offensive players in BWAL history.

Barto does not simply play for the 8 Balls.

He represents them.

The confidence, the emotion, the championship expectations and the belief that every game belongs to them all flow through their captain.

That is Cam Barto entering Season 4: the BWAL's Bryce Harper, the Captain of the Year, a proven champion and the man in the black beanie who always looks ready to steal another game.

The Verdict

A Season 2 champion, elite on-base threat, dangerous power hitter and award-winning captain whose production and personality define the 8 Balls.

Season 4 Question

Can Cam Barto lead the 8 Balls back to the top and add a second BWAL championship to his résumé?
